Our Dutch courses are suitable to prepare students for the exams Inburgering; NT-1 and NT-2, as well as simply introduce them to the language and improve their proficiency.

Dutch level 1

This course is designed for people with no or limited knowledge of the Dutch Language. You will start with exercises on pronunciation, short texts, vocabulary and sentence structure. You will learn how to introduce yourself, ask questions and give information about yourself. You will learn the numbers and to tell the time in Dutch and speak about a visit to a restaurant, shopping and meals.

We offer this course once a week as well as twice a week.

Dutch level 2

During this course you will expand your vocabulary, which in combination with grammar will improve your spoken Dutch and sentence structure. Topics you will study will include the household, meals, sport, music, visiting the doctor and social life. You will learn how to invite people over or out, to describe objects and people.  The texts you will be able to read will be slightly more complicated and we will also work with audio material.

Dutch level 3

During this course you will expand your knowledge of the Dutch language considerably. You will make a start with writing on a regular basis.  Your experience of Dutch grammar will be wholly practical; meaning you can use it in your speech and written work. Topics for this course include shopping, your home, special occasions and relations.

Dutch level 4

During this course you will experience reading, listening, speaking and writing Dutch at a higher level. Topics we will work on will include houses, studying, job and course applications and your  future. You will learn to give your personal opinion, write short letters and emails and comment on the news. You will be able to discuss your ideas and comment on those of others. We will also pay attention to more complex grammatical structures. We will make a start with practising speeches and lectures.

Dutch level 5

This is the last course in which we use study book ‘Contact’. Grammar is more intensively studied and we spend more time focusing closely on Dutch sentence structure and word order. The topics that we will discuss will include current affairs, Dutch culture and habits. You will learn how to successfully form opinions and discuss this with others in the Dutch Language. We will practice spoken Dutch and improve your interview technique for job and course interviews. We also work on improving writing skills for letters and emails.

Dutch level 6 (state exam NT-2)

This course is aimed at students who wish to prepare for the NT-2 exam, or want to advance their Dutch in general. We  practice by looking at old exam papers and study grammar more intensively, then apply this to written essays. You will learn how to give presentations and take part in interviews and meetings. After the course you’ll be trained in the four subsets of the state exam: listening, speaking, writing and reading.

Dutch level 7

During this course we will work on speaking, writing, grammar, vocabulary, reading, sentence structure and presentation. You’ll learn about topics such as education, press, culture, travel, monarchy, political parties and the future. Grammar includes conjunctions, the “to + infinitive” construction, passive use of verbs including modal verbs, relative pronouns and adjectives. Throughout the course we use an engaging and active approach to exercises.

Dutch level 8

This course also focuses on all aspects of Dutch proficiency. We will discuss a variety of topics including inventions, the biographies of M.C. Escher and Johan Cruiff, the Cultural Centre, studying, holidays, traffic, the expansion of Schiphol. Grammatical elements of the course include using articles (de/het/een), future tense, abbreviations, separable verbs with preposition, reference words, double infinitives in the perfect tense, sentence structure and order when using different verbs.

During this course we discuss topics such as Dutch education and the way it’s changing, studying and universities, (public) transport, traffic and Schiphol airport. Grammar we study includes separable verbs, sentence structure when using verbs and using the present perfect.

Dutch level 10

In this course we will use a textbook as well as online study material.  We examine all aspects of the Dutch language: reading, vocabulary, speaking, pronunciation, listening, writing and grammar. In addition, we will pay extra attention to studying skills / Dutch proficiency. The issues we will discuss in class include language and culture, intercultural communication, education, economy and business. This also includes speaking Dutch in a business situation:  for meetings and networking.

Dutch level 11

This course follows after the level 9 course. Topics that are covered include dementia, diet and nutrition, diets, animal testing, transplants, psychology, happiness and activities. You will learn to make a formal complaint and be assertive yet professional in Dutch. Grammar will include antonyms, imperatives, prepositions, headings, sentence structure, the passive voice, paraphrasing.

Dutch level 12

Topics that are covered include people and their behavior, the judicial world, justice and injustice, people and technology, Albert Einstein. Grammatical topics include prepositions, adjectives, descriptions, verbs in subordinate clauses, synonyms, idioms and phrases, separable verbs with other verbs, will / would. You will learn to negotiate, host a presentation, ask critical questions, voice an opinion.

Dutch Conversation

This course is designed for anyone who has a Dutch proficiency level of B1 or over.

During this course we deal with topics that relate to current affairs. Students will have the opportunity to suggest themes for discussion each week. The aim of the course is to expand your vocabulary, improve speech and deal with relevant subjects, so you will feel confident to participate in discussions and conversations in the real world.

Business Dutch

This course is designed to help you to write better emails, letters and reports. We discuss grammar, style and commonly made mistakes in written work. We also practice spoken business Dutch, presentations and phone calls.
